I joined Pinterst about six months ago, but I never really had much time to check it out until last week when I had some down time. Now, I'm totally addicted. Anyway, I saw this cute little cake put together with School Supplies by Leigh Ann Butler and knew I had to try it. I thought it would be the perfect gift for Gavin's teacher on the last day of school. I also know that the teachers always need extra supplies at the beginning of every school year, so I figured this cake could be put to good use at the beginning of the next school year. Here's a big tip as well... the best time to buy the supplies for one these cakes is right before school starts. I didn't realize how expensive they are when they're "not in season" until I purchased them last week. lol Anyway on to the cake...
The instructions on how to put this cake together can be found here...The Butlers. I used notebooks, crayons, glue, glue sticks, pencils, the center of a wrapping paper roll and a roll of paper towels to put this cake together. I did change a few things on my cake when I put it together though. I added a piece of Daffodil Delight Card Stock around the very top of the paper towels so you couldn't see the top of the roll. Also, I cut a five inch circle to set on the top of the paper towels as well to hide the very top of the paper towels. I also wanted to use a cute school theme since Gavin would be giving this to his teacher. The worm and apples are all punch art creations I made using my Stampin' Up Punches. The worm is simply punched using different sized circles and the sides of his glasses are actually letter Js I cut out using the Big Shot. The green apples were made using the Round Tab punch. I finished the cake off by adding some 1/4 in. Grosgrain Ribbon around each layer.
